About the club

A clubhouse for recovery in northern Lake County, kept open by its members since 1987.

What is an Alano club?

“Alano” comes from Al-Anon and Alcoholics Anonymous. Across the country, Alano clubs are independent, member-run clubhouses that give 12-step groups a steady, sober place to meet.

A.A.’s Traditions ask groups not to own property, so they can keep their focus on carrying the message. The club takes care of the building, the bills and the coffee pot, so the groups don’t have to.

Our story

The Round Lake Area Alano Club opened in 1987 to serve the Round Lake area. Today it’s on Route 83 in Lake Villa and hosts 21 meetings a week: noon and evening meetings, Big Book and Twelve and Twelve studies, a women’s step meeting, a Spanish-language meeting and an open speaker meeting.

Inside, the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions hang on the wall, and two plaques honor past members. Their names stay with us.

Club history is still being gathered. Long-time members: if you remember how the club started, we’d love to hear it.
